Korea’s Ha Jung Eun and Lee Yong Dae win Mixed Doubles crown at the US Open Grand Prix Gold 2011
Korea’s Ha Jung Eun and Lee Yong Dae bagged the Mixed Doubles crown after taming Chen Hung Ling and Cheng Wen Hsing of Chinese Taipei in the final match of the US Open Grand Prix Gold 2011, in California, on Saturday, July 16.
The un-seeded Koreans proved their worth by playing top-class badminton and thrashed the fifth seed, Taipei shuttlers, in a straight-set match of just 36 minutes. Jung Eun and Yong played an attacking game throughout the match by creating opportunities through
their fast and accurate net play.
The first set of the match was a close encounter, as both duos played to their maximum potential and the score progressed closely until the end of the first-half. At this stage, the Koreans were leading the set with a small gap of just one point.
After the break, the pair from Taipei played a better game and levelled the score by reaching 14-14. However, Jung Eun and Yong controlled proceedings in the concluding part of the game by playing positive badminton at the net. Through their impressive net
play, the Koreans managed to win the opening game with a narrow difference of 21-19, in 20 minutes.
In the second game, the World Number Six duo from Taipei committed many mistakes in the starting half, which put their rivals in a good position. Jung Eun and Yong delivered a superb performance by displaying their wonderful skills of the highest standard.
Until the break, the Koreans were the leaders of the game by reaching at 11-7.
Coming back into the court after taking a 60-second rest, the Taipei shuttlers tried to reduce the deficit, but failed as the Koreans were just too strong for them. Jung Eun and Yong rushed towards their destination, as Hung Ling and Wen Hsing failed to
match the speed of the game.
Jung Eun and Yong finished-off the second game in just 16 minutes, with a good difference of 21-13. This 36-minute straight-game contest ended with the win of the Koreans by a margin of 21-19 and 21-13.
