Korea’s Jae Sung Jung and Yong Dae Lee win the German Open GP Gold 2011 title – Badminton News
The Korean pair of Jae Sung Jung and Yong Dae Lee defeated team-mates Ki Jung Kim and Sa Rang Kim, in the final match of the German Open GP Gold 2011, on March 6, at Mulheim, Germany.
The encounter was a three-set thrilling match that took 46 minutes of hard labour from both sides where Jae Sung and Yong Dae emerged as the winners.
It was an all-Korean affair in the final of the Men’s Doubles in the German Open, where the top seed of the event and World Number Three pair of Jae Sung and Yong Dae defeated compatriots Ki Jung and Sa Rang, who were the qualifiers in the event.
In the opening game, the youngsters put up a good show by playing well against their more experienced team-mates. The top seeds were leading the set 11-10, at the one-minute interval.
After the interval, both sides again remained close until 16-16. The crowd became crazy with the demonstration of top quality badminton from both the Korean pairs. The game from both sides was progressing with the highest speed, as the shuttle c**k mostly
remained below the net tape.
The Korean pairs were employing all they had including strong pushes, cross-net shots, straight to the body smashes, tight servings, parallel defensive strokes and net killings. At the crucial stage of the game at 18-18, the younger compatriots made some
crucial mistakes that cost them the opening set by a tight margin of 19-21, in 16 minutes.
It was a wonderful match for the local crowd as the finalists were playing top quality badminton. In the second game, the top pair of the event was leading the game until the interval, where the score was 11-9. Ki Jung and Sa Rang started to make things
different after the interval, when they scored five points in a row and took a good lead of 16-13. Gradually the game became more aggressive, but this time the young pair spared no opportunity for the top seeds and clinched the set by a decent difference of
21-18 in 15 minutes.
In the third and final set of the title match, the top seed Koreans proved their seniority and controlled the game from the opening points. They were leading by 21-7 at the one-minute break. After the interval, Jae Sung and Yong Dae continued their superb
run and stretched the lead to 18-10. The younger team-mates had no answer to the fast and positive play of their opponents. The top seeds won the third-set by a big margin of 21-11. The final score of the 46-minute match was 21-19, 18-21 and 21-11.
The winners will be competing in the All England Premier Super Series event, starting from tomorrow on March 8, in Birmingham, England.
