Korea’s Lee Yong Dae - Ha Jung Eun beat Indian couple in the pre-quarterfinal of Swiss Open GP Gold
Korea’s Mixed Doubles couple of Lee Yong Dae and Ha Jung Eun hammered Diju Valiyaveetil and Jwala Gutta of India in the pre-quarterfinal battle of the Swiss Open GP Gold 2011, at Basel, on March 17.
The number eight seed Korean couple took only 23 minutes to thrash the Indians in a one-sided straight-set match. In the quarter-final, the Korean duo will meet either, Hung Ling Chen and Wen Hsing Cheng of Chinese Taipei or Shintaro Ikeda and Reiko Shiota
of Japan.
Right from the start of the opening set, both sides started the game with high spirits as Yong Dae and Jung Eun were the favourites on paper, while Diju and Jwala were motivated with their win in the previous round against Johannes Schoettler and Sandra
Marinello of Germany. It was an interesting match to watch, as both pairs remained equal on every point and reached level at 8-8.
Both sides were employing short serves for not sparing any opportunity of smashes for the opponents. The Koreans scored three points in a row and built a lead for the first time in the opening set at 11-8.
Getting back in the court after the break, the Korean couple accelerated the pace of the game by becoming quicker on the net and kept the bird low. This tactic worked well and they managed to set a very good lead of 18-13. The Koreans remained positive in
the end and won the opening set with a reasonable difference of 21-14, in just 12 minutes.
In the second set, the number eight seeds remained ahead of the Indians from the starting points by playing an attacking game. The control over the rallies by the Koreans was just incredible, as they were facing no trouble at all to handle the speed of the
bird. At the end of the opening half of the second set, Yong Dae-Jung Eun established a one-sided lead of 11-3.
After the one-minute-rest, the Koreans showed no mercy to the Indians and stretched their lead to 16-7. The couple of Diju and Jwala were just helpless against the terrific performance of their opponents, who were far better in all aspects of the game. Yong
Dae-Jung Eun finished the set after a one-sided fight with a 21-8 score on the board, in just 11 minutes. The match lasted for only 23 minutes and the concluding score was 21-13 and 21-8.
