Korea’s Youn Joo Bae trounces Sayaka Sato in Women’s Singles semi-final of India Open Super Series
Korea’s Youn Joo Bae, has defeated Sayaka Sato of Japan, in the Women’s Singles semi-final of the India Open Super Series 2011, in India, on Saturday, April 30. The Number Three seed, Youn Joo, had to work hard for three-sets of 62 minutes to chuck out Sayaka,
who stopped the winning streak of Jiayuan Chen of Singapore, in the quarter-final.
In the final show-down of the Championship, Youn Joo will be up against Porntip Buranaprasertsuk of Thailand, who emerged as the winner against Hong Kong’s Pui Yin Yip, in the semi-final of the event.
In the first set, both ladies put up a wonderful show of top class badminton in front of the packed indoor arena in New Delhi. The score progressed with the equal pace, as nobody could manage to take a clear lead. In the opening half of the set, Youn Joo
was slightly ahead at 11-10.
Sayaka levelled the score at 15-15 by playing aggressively. It was a wonderful fight as both shuttlers were playing at maximum speed. The score evened out at 21-21, when the Korean remained lucky to grab the remaining points and won the set with a 23-21
margin, in 26 minutes.
Sayaka bounced back in the match by winning the second set. She geared up the speed of the rallies and controlled the bird by remaining focused on the game. Youn Joo tried her best to break the momentum of the Japanese, but remained unsuccessful as her opponent
was perfect in her shot selection and execution of strokes. Sayaka won the second set in 20 minutes with a decent margin of 21-15.
In the deciding set of the match, Youn Joo played an incredible game by maintaining superb control over the rallies in the entire set. At the one-minute break, the Korean was far ahead of the Japanese at 11-5. The third seed continued her positive play after
the break and won the set with a big difference of 21-12, in just 16 minutes. The ending score of this superb 62-minute fight was 23-21, 15-21 and 21-12.
