Igor Korneev believes that Benedikt Howedes and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar can strengthen the defending Russian Premier League champions' squad
The former CSKA Moscow player, Igor Korneev, has tipped Zenit St. Petersburg to sign Benedikt Howedes and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Klaas-Jan-Huntelaar-c21175 from Schalke 04 during the upcoming January transfer window.
And while Huntelaar and Howedes have themselves made it clear that they want to change their current club to try their fate in some different league, Korneev thinks that the Russian championship is the right place for the German
defender and the Dutch striker.
Korneev has urged the St. Petersburg to prepare bid for the aforementioned players as they will face still competition for their signatures during winter. He said that both the players are willing to change their current club despite
playing with the German outfit on regular basis.
The Russian national went on to insist that the St. Petersburg club, who are facing defensive crisis at the moment after conceding 12 goals from last seven games in all competition, need to think about signing the German defender,
who has recently been called to play for his national team ahead of the World Cup qualifiers.
However, Schalke have put a staggering 15 million Euros tag in the 24-year-old German International, whose contract expires at the end of next year. The DFL-Super Cup winner has made five appearances for Schalke this season.
“In my opinion, Zenit are in dire need of a central defender. Howedes is a very strong defender, which is a key member of one of the strongest teams in the world. Now is the time when the Russian outfit should make a move as the
agents are looking for a decent price for their client.” The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 player was quoted as saying.
And while Zenit’s strikers, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Aleksandr-Bukharov-c4555 more specifically, are struggling to score more goals, Korneev has told the Russian outfit that Huntelaar could end their offensive problems.
However, Korneev believes that the defending champions need to offload Bukharov if they are to sign the Dutch striker, who has already scored three goals in seven appearances this season.
