Kosuke Fukudome's 14th inning hit gives Cleveland Indians 3-2 win over Detroit Tigers – MLB Update
The Cleveland Indians fought their way into the 14th inning on Tuesday, August 9 to beat the Detroit Tigers 3-2 at Progressive Field.
The Indians’ offence had to struggle hard to finally overwhelm the Tigers.
Entering into the 14th inning with the score tied at 2-2, Fukudome eventually struck a hit that did not go unrewarded, turning the game into the Indians’ favour with a 3-2 victory, much to the wild excitement of the fans at home.
"We just need to stay close, within striking distance, and not let this thing get too far out of reach for us," Indians’ closer Chris Perez said. "It's going to be fun. This is why we play. Every game is important, but those head-to-head matchups are even
more important just because you control it yourself."
The Indians’ hitters were more aggressive when the game commenced on Tuesday. After Justin Masterson threw the first inning, giving up no run, Doug Fister of the Tigers was subject to massive hits by the Indians’ hitters.
Asdrubal Cabrera was first to score by singling to centre and before Doug Fister could pack up the inning, Carlos Santana had the second run of the inning, giving a comfortable 2-0 lead to the Indians.
However, the lead did not last long as the Tigers came back with hard hitting. Don Kelly was first to score against the Cleveland starter Justin Masterson. Austin Jackson followed with his single that levelled the score, keeping the game full of excitement.
After the eventful two innings, the pitchers of both the teams went hard on the respective offence. None of the hitters were able to go for the tiebreaking score, as innings went scoreless. A seemingly tediously lengthy game crossed the usual ninth inning.
As the game progressed and became tiring – with all the impatience being evinced by the both sides to hit the winning run, it was Kosuke Fukudome who nimbly struck a hit in the 14th inning against David Pauley to give a difficult 3-2 win to the
Cleveland Indians.
