Kosuke Fukudome sparks as Chicago Cubs humiliate Milwaukee Brewers 12-7 – MLB Update
Chicago Cubs’ out-fielder, Kosuke Fukudome had a remarkable day with the bat as he posted three runs including four RBIs and went 3-for-5 in the Cubs’ 12-7 victory against the Milwaukee Brewers at Wrigley Field, Chicago on June 16.
The game was tied 2-all from the very first inning as both the teams added two runs individually. Ryan Braun struck a solo homer (392 feet) towards left-field and Nyjer Morgan posted a single run. Fukudome scored the initial run for the Cubs when Castro
doubled to deep left and Castro contributed the second run.
It seemed that it was a day for the batters as the Brewers again scored two runs and the Cubs added three runs during the second inning to go-ahead 5-4. Corey Hart singled towards the left-field to score one run while George Kottaras homered (408 feet) to
right-field. Alfonso Soriano, Geovany Soto and Fukudome each scored one run for the Cubs during the second inning.
In the third inning, the score-board advanced to 6-5 when Casey McGehee doubled to deep centre-field and Braun posted one run. Carlos Pena hit a one-run homer (383 feet) towards right-field to extend the Cubs’ lead.
Braun said, “That's a good team they have over there. I don't think they've played up to their expectations to this point. They're going to be in it at the end of the year, they've got a real good team.”
The pitchers did not give away any run in the fourth and fifth inning. Matt Garza permitted five runs on six hits including five earned runs in his six inning pitches and threw the ball with an ERA of 4.14. He was able to strike-out three batters and gave
three walks on 99 pitches.
The Cubs’ batters shined right through the game as they blasted three runs in the sixth inning to get a 9-5 lead. Soto and Tony Campana both singled while Fukudome hit a three-run homer (415 feet) towards right-field to complete a three-run campaign.
Soriano struck a solo homer (397 feet) to left-field and Pena added one run during the seventh inning to move the score-board 11-5. Eighth inning was also in favour of the Cubs as they took a 12-5 lead when Aramis Ramirez doubled to deep left and Lou Montanez
posted one run.
The Cubs’ manager, Mike Quade expressed his excitement and said, “Just the way it occurred. We haven't played great baseball, but there were a lot of plays today. ... There was some execution today that I really liked to see.”
In the last inning of the game, Yuniesky Betancourt and Carlos Gomez both singled to reduce their team’s lead 12-7 when Jonathan Lucroy singled off the centre field.
