Kosuke Kitajima claims Men’s 200m breaststroke gold: Day one - Santa Clara International Grand Prix
Kosuke Kitajima of Coca Cola Japan won gold medal of the Men’s 200m breaststroke on foremost day of the 2012 Santa Clara International Grand Prix in California on Friday, June 1.
The event is the final stage of seven-juncture 2012 USA Swimming Grand Prix Series, allowing US swimmers to compete with the best of world and overpower their deficiencies before the 2012 London Olympic Games.
The four-time Olympic champion, Kitajima went full rampant in the distant breaststroke discipline and proved his mettle for gold medal of the discipline by hitting the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 13.24 seconds.
His scintillating effort remained nearly one second faster from his following swimmer, Scott W Weltz of Marin Pirates-PC, who stepped on the medal rostrum for silver medal by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 14.27 seconds.
The second position holder was chased by Christian Schurr Voigt of Mexico, who suffered a deficit of 0.08 seconds from his foregoing finisher and stepped on the victory stand for bronze medal with the timing of 2 minutes and 14.35 seconds.
Following that, the audience witnessed exhausting efforts of Joshua C Prenot of Santa Maria Swim, who was just 0.13 seconds away from upsetting the third best finisher and settled on the wall with and effort of 2 minutes and 14.48 seconds for fourth position.
Prenot was chased by Bernard H Johnson of Palo Alto Stanford, who remained 0.37 seconds apart and concluded his race in fifth best place with the timing of 2 minutes and 14.85 seconds.
The 25-year-old Bernard was followed by Glenn A Snyders of New Zealand, who was 0.08 seconds behind and posted a time of 2 minutes and 14.93 seconds for sixth position of the event.
Last spot of the race was obtained by Trevor J Hoyt of Unattached-PC, who stayed 0.12 seconds slower and submitted a time of 2 minutes and 15.05 seconds for seventh position.
In addition, the session concluded after the completion of all planned events while the position holders received awards and accolades for their notable efforts at the medal ceremony of the tournament.
