Kosuke Kitajima dominates Men’s 100m breaststroke heats: Day one - Tatsumi International Pool

Olympic gold medallist, Kosuke Kitajima dominated the qualification rounds of Men’s 100m breaststroke on foremost day of the Tatsumi International Pool in Tokyo, Japan on Monday, April 2.
The Japanese veteran demonstrated his gruelling efforts in the two-lap breaststroke discipline, where he stifled hope of his challengers by reaching the finishing end first.
With his phenomenal efforts in the preliminary round, Kitajima enjoyed an advantage of one and a half stroke over his following rival and qualified into the next round with the timing of 1 minute and 00.23 seconds.
His furious effort remained 0.14 seconds ahead of Ryo Tateishi, who followed him on the finishing end for second position by posting an effort of 1 minute and 00.37 seconds.
The third position of the discipline was obtained by Naoya Tomita, who remained almost one second slower from Tateishi and tapped the finishing wall with a timing of 1 minute and 01.33 seconds.
He was followed by his teammate, Daiki Sakata, who remained just 0.07 seconds slower from him and settled on the finishing end as fourth best finisher by producing a time of 1 minute and 01.40 seconds.
Subsequently, Asami Chida dominated the qualification rounds of Women’s 400m freestyle. Chida remained considerably faster from her opponents throughout the eight-lap discipline and concluded her race in a time of 4 minutes and 11.42 seconds.
Her scintillating effort placed her nearly two seconds ahead of Ayano Koguchi, who claimed second position of the discipline by completed her race with an effort of 4 minutes and 13.34 seconds.
The third fastest qualification spot of the race was obtained by Aya Takano, who remained marginally slower from her former finisher and posted a time of 4 minutes and 13.48 seconds.
Afterwards, Mizuki Nonaka acquired the fourth qualification spot of the discipline as she ended her swim with an effort of 4 minutes and 14.68 seconds to qualify for the next round.
The crowd admired remarkable struggles of all participants in their exclusive events while these qualifying swimmers will compete with each other in the next round to prove their mettle for top finishing spots of the race.
