Kotuku Ngawati acquired Girls 100m backstroke gold: Day two – Australian Age Championships, Brisbane
Kotuku Ngawati of Melbourne Vicentre acquired gold medal of the Girl’s 100m backstroke in the age group of 17-18 Year Olds on second day of the 2012 Australian Age Championships on Tuesday, April 10 at the Brisbane Aquatic Centre.
The 17-year-old Ngawati remained significantly ahead of her following swimmer, Madison Wilson of St Peters Western Swim Club and transpired on the finishing end for gold medal.
Her superb swim coupled with her powerful strokes enabled her to take lead over her challengers from the start and she reached the finishing end first by posting a time of 1 minute and 02.20 seconds.
Her title claiming effort stayed 0.33 seconds ahead of Wilson, who hit the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 02.53 seconds for silver medal.
Third spot of the discipline was secured by Mikka Sheridan of Chandler, who proved her audacity for bronze medal of the event by tapping the wall in a time of 1 minute and 02.59 seconds.
Sheridan was followed by Jordan White of Cranbrook EE, who remained nearly one body length slower from her former finisher and settled on the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 03.26 seconds.
Next was the equivalent event in Boys category, where Cameron McEvoy of Southport Olympic Swimming Club clinched gold medal of the event by hitting the wall with an effort of 55.74 seconds.
McEvoy was followed by St Peters Western Swim Club, who stayed almost half body length slower and posted a time of 56.03 seconds.
The 18-year-old Larkin was trailed by Corey Main of New Zealand, who followed him on the medal rostrum for bronze medal by clocking a time of 56.48 seconds.
The bronze medallist remained 0.50 seconds ahead of his following rival, Robert Gerlach of East Brisbane, who settled on the finishing wall as fourth position holder by hitting the wall with an effort of 56.98 seconds.
Furthermore, the crowd appreciated phenomenal efforts of all participants in their respective events while the medal winners were awarded accolades for their marvellous efforts at the medal ceremony of the tournament.
