Kotuku Ngawati earns Girls 200m IM gold: Day four – Australian Age Championships, Brisbane
Kotuku Ngawati of Melbourne Vicentre earned gold medal of the Girls 200m Individual Medley in the age group of 17-18 Year Olds on fourth day of the 2012 Australian Age Championships on Thursday, April 12 at the Brisbane Aquatic Centre.
The 17-year-old Ngawati stayed comfortably ahead of her challengers throughout the discipline. With her alluring effort, she remained almost two body lengths ahead of her following swimmer and settled on the finishing end for silver medal by clocking a time
of 2 minutes and 13.50 seconds.
Ngawati was chased by Taylor McKeown, who hit the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 15.74 seconds for silver medal. McKeown was chased by Samantha Wilkins, who hit the wall the timing of 2 minutes and 16.23 seconds for bronze medal.
Subsequently, Jeremy Kevin Mathews of Singapore, who dominated the playoff of Boys 17-18 Year Olds by ending his swim in a time of 2 minutes and 04.58 seconds for gold medal. Jared Gilliland of Nudgee Brothers remained almost one body length slower from
his former finisher and hit the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 05.29 seconds.
The third spot of the discipline was occupied by his team-member, Buster Sykes, who stayed nearly half body length slower from his former finisher and touched the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 05.97 seconds.
Following that, Alanna Bowles of Rocky City won the crown of Girls 14 Year Olds 400m freestyle by touching the wall with an effort of 4 minutes and 17.41 seconds.
Bowles was followed by Bonnie Zhang of Canberra, who stayed almost 2.50 seconds slower from her former finisher and settled on the finishing end for second position by clocking a time of 4 minutes and 19.96 seconds.
Third position of the discipline was secured by Taylor Green of East Brisbane, who outsmarted her following swimmers by clocking a time of 4 minutes and 21.05 seconds for bronze medal.
The session came to an end after the wonderful efforts of all participants while the position holders were invited on the medal rostrum for accolades at prize ceremony of the championship.
