Kraft Nabisco Championship: Amy Yang loses ground in the second round
Amy Yang, who grabbed the first-round lead by posting a stunning 66 in the Kraft Nabisco Championship, lost her ground on the second day after scoring a 74.
Yang was more than happy with her performance on the first day of the $2 million major title, but she messed up her hard-earned standing in the second round.
She performed worse than expected, as she registered 4 bogeys and just 2 birdies. Spectators at the Dinah Shore Tournament Course in Rancho Mirage were stunned to see a lesser-known player grab the top spot in the first round of the much-hyped major tournament.
However, Yani Tseng managed to outperform Yang with ease. The current world number one Tseng was standing at the third position on the first day.
However, the Taiwanese star picked up pace in the second round, grabbing the top spot on the leaderboard.
The weather conditions remained almost the same as the first round, but Yang seemed completely out of form amid tough resistance from other players.
The field of the Kraft Nabisco Championship is pretty strong, as it is featuring top-ranked players on the LPGA.
In addition to Yani Tseng, the roster is also featuring Paula Creamer and the defending champion Stacy Lewis.
Yang started her second round unimpressively, as she recorded a bogey on the first hole. The first bogey caused the Korean star to lose momentum.
She was seen struggling most of the day, recording just two birdies. Yang seemed to pick up some pace on the par-4 6th, as she drained an impressive birdie.
On the back nine, her game looked even sloppier. She let down her fans when she made yet another bogey on the par-4 12th.
The third bogey on the 14th made a sever dent in her position on the leaderboard.
Although demoralised after losing grip on her game, she again seemed to rebound after recording her second birdie on the difficult par-3 17th.
While the Korean messed up her second round, analysts pointed out that she would have maintained her position, if she had not let her nerve overcome her.
Yani Tseng is currently standing on top of the leaderboard, with an overall 136. On the other hand, Haeji Kang is on the second position.
