Kraft Nabisco Championship: Jessica Korda falters in the first round
Jessica Korda could not impress her fans in the first round of the Kraft Nabisco Championship, as she marred her score with 4 bogeys.
American Korda was not happy to find herself tied for the 89th position, as she posted a 4-over 76.
She played among tough contenders at the Dinah Shore Tournament Course in Rancho Mirage, the field for the major is stronger than last year.
The Bradenton native appeared to be in trouble most of the day, as she struggled to find her form.
She seemed to lose momentum when she saw the Korean Amy Yang grab the top position on the leaderboard.
Korda set foot on the course with plenty of confidence, but lost her momentum after shooting her first bogey.
She tried hard to bounce back, however, other players kept the pressure hard on her, hampering her from advancing.
Analysts said that the main reason Korda could not perform well in the first round was her worse-than-average putting.
She let her rivals make the most of her sloppy performance, as she not only messed up difficult holes, but also easier ones.
When she made a bogey on the par-4 6th, the spectators on the course tried to spur her on. She scored another bogey on the next hole, making the situation even more complex for her.
Korda could not score a single birdie in the round, which according to analysts, took a serious toll on her overall performance for the day. They said that she would have bounced back early on if she had been careful with her putts.
The American star was more than thrilled just a few days back when she recorded her first LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) triumph in the Women’s Australian Open.
Golf experts said that the Aussie Open also featured a formidable field, but Korda played amazingly well and stole the show.
They said that, since the Kraft Nabisco Championship is a major event and psychological pressure often affects players, Korda might have felt nervous.
The current world number one Yani Tseng, who fired an impressive 68, currently stands at the third position on the leaderboard. On the other hand, Lindsey Wright of Australia scored a 67 to grab the second spot.
