Kralovo Pole BRNO defeats Lokomotiv BAKU – 2012 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup

The Czech Republic team of Kralovo Pole BRNO played against the Lokomotiv BAKU of Azerbaijan on February 23.
The match between the two sides was hosted in the Czech Republic city of Brno. The venue of the competition was the Vodova sports hall and the match was part of the semi-finals of the 2012 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup – Women that are currently taking place
in many of the European cities.
The two teams contested with each other for five thrilling sets at the end of which the home fans gave a loud cheer as their team was able to end up on the winning side. The scoreboard showed the following final set scores at the BRNO win: 30-28, 16-25,
25-20, 20-25 and 15-12.
The first set of the match was the toughest of all as no one was sure where the tables would turn until the very end. The two sides did not let go and took the match to several match points but the home team remained successful in bagging the opening frame
of the game at 30-28.
The guests responded in the second set by giving the home team a tough time and smothering by in order to make the match reach a tie by securing the second set 25-16. The third set was bagged by the home side but the guests were able to take the match to
a fifth set by securing the fourth one. However, the home team was able to get their hands on the final frame of the match.
The head coach of the winning team, Ondrej Marek, expressed his delight in the following manner at the press conference conducted after the closing of the match, “It is my greatest victory and I am very proud of my girls. Their coach had stated they did
not know anything about us. So finally they were well served.”
On the other hand, the spiker of the home team, Romana Stankova, shared her feelings in the following words, “I have never played in front of so many people. I was just amazed by this atmosphere. The audience helped us a lot and I do not think we would have
won if we had had 500 people in the hall.”
