Question:

Krav Maga or Kajukenbo?

I did Tae Kwon Do and a little Hapkido as a kid for a while, then recently I've mingled in Muay Thai and other various martial arts that my friends trained in.

But I feel like its time for me to begin seriously training in a new martial art and I'm trying to decide between Krav Maga and Kajukenbo (ideally I would love to do both but I have to take time and money into consideration), does anyone have any suggestions?

  1. Check out some krav maga lessons online before you go. That will help you make your decision. Congrats on your new training!

  2. krav maga definetely :)

  3. I saw both Krav Maga and Kajukenbo on Fight Quest. I've been doing Krav for about 6 months now and I can say I'm in the best shape I've been in a long time. It's very practical, efficient, and fun.

But I think it should also to depend on where you live and whether there's a good school/instructor near you. I train with a school that's affiliated w/ the IKMF. It's excellent. But interview both potential instructors (KM and Kajukenbo) and attend a session of both. Also, talk to some students after class and ask them how their experiences have been.

If you want to do sport fighting - Krav Maga might not be for you. It's meant for the streets: for protection against surprise attacks, multiple attackers, and armed attackers. Kajukenbo is also street based, but I think there's a little bit more sport in it than KM.

Plus, they actually us KM in military situations. We have a lot of law enforcement and military guys/gals in my classes.  The IDF uses it and continues to update and perfect it based on feedback they get from KM practitioners.

  4. Krav Maga. It is easier to learn in a short period of time.
