Krejcikova, Sasnovich qualify for the Girl’s Singles second round – Wimbledon championships 2011
Barbora Krejcikova of Czech Republic shocked Christina Makarova of America when she dragged her American opponent into a three-set fight 6(2)-7(7), 6-4, 6-4 to reach the second round of Wimbledon Championships.
Playing tired and desperately, Krejcikova took two hour and fourteen minutes to subdue the hard-working Makarova.
After trading breaks midway through the opening set, Makarova won five consecutive points to take the tie-breaker, which ended when Krejcikova sent a forehand wide.
Despite performing a shaky show in the opening set, Krejcikova came like a bullet in the second and third set to clinch the victory in three sets.
Krejcikova, eying first title at the Wimbledon championships 2011, raced through the first round in just 134 minutes of play as Makarova faded.
The Czech player now moves on ahead to face Donna Vekic of Croatia in the second round of Wimbledon Championships 2011.
In another power-packed performance from the day, Aliaksandra Sasnovich of Belarus defeated fourteenth-seeded Viktoria Malova of Slovakia 6-2, 6-1, to reach the second round of the tournament.
The Belarusian broke the Slovakian player to lead 5-2 before surviving a few wobbles to take the first set in just 33 minutes.
The opening set proved to be a stern test for Sasnovich, who ensured she remained on top of Malova to reach the second round.
Malova remained totally unable to uplift the level of her game and wasted a number of breakpoint opportunities as she was troubled by the Belarusian with an array of forehand winners and aggressive play.
But after squandering chances at 2-2, Malova had no answer to her opponent’s serve to lose the first set.
Sasnovich ruthlessly took full advantage of the tiring Slovakian, breaking her opening service game in the second set, and with a decisive break of serve, the victory was swiftly wrapped up.
The Belarusian was dominant on serve, winning a whopping 82 percent on her first serve, 64 percent on second serve and a total of 15 of 33 on return. In comparison, her adversary scored 53 percent of points on her first serve,
50 percent of points on second serve and a meager 28 percent on return.
The Belarusian now marches on into the second round of the tournament, where she will meet Indy de Vroome of Netherlands, attempting to reach the third round of the tournament.
