Kris Commons unsure over Derby County future
Kris Commons has revealed that he would like to stay at Derby County, but that he was unsure of his future as his contract runs out at the end of the season.
The Derby striker has been in wonderful form this season and he is the club’s top scorer having scored five goals in 10 league games.
However, the Executive chairman Tom Glick and manager Nigel Clough have yet to offer the in-form striker a new contract.
Commons stated his commitment to the club and his disappointment at not being rewarded with a new deal at Pride Park.
"Of course I want to stay as it's one of the best places to play football and we are on the up. Tom Glick, manager Nigel Clough and the backroom staff have decisions to make," said Commons.
Commons believes that his future at Derby is not up to him and said, “The decision is not in my hands. I'm sure I will be the last to know, but it needs sorting as soon as possible.”
Commons signed for Derby from Nottingham Forest in June 2008 and he has hit form in the early part of this season.
However, Glick stated that he wants Commons to remain at the club and said, "Let me be clear, we are interested in extending Kris's contract, but we are not doing it in the public domain."
There have been rumours that Clough and Commons have a bad relationship, but earlier this month Clough stated that Commons is a crucial player in his team and will be this season.
Glick was quick to dispel the rumour that manager and player were not on good terms.
"There is a good relationship between Kris Commons and Nigel Clough and that is why Kris has been available for selection this season," said Glick
Derby fans will hope that Clough will offer Commons a new deal soon or they may risk losing the player.
