Kris Humphries and Deron Williams fashion a 90-84 New Jersey Nets win over Washington Wizards: NBA
On Monday night, the Washington Wizards, playing at home were in the driving seat - ahead by 21 points (38-17) – early in the game.
However by the time, the game ended, they were left to rue the missed opportunity. New Jersey Nets came from behind to first eliminate the mammoth deficit and went on to win the game 90-84, to leave the Verizon Center and Wizards completely stunned.
Two men responsible for all this were Deron Williams and Kris Humphries.
Humphries, who was playing against two opponents tonight - Wizards and the hostile home crowd, that kept jeering him throughout the game - answered tremendously, by scoring 21 points and 16 rebounds to lead Nets to an impressive win. Apart from bundling points, Kris deflected a crucial pass by John Wall, when Wizards were only behind by 3 points with a minute remaining in the game.
He was thrilled with how he performed under pressure.
"To me, it's motivation. People are yelling at you - you've got to perform, you've got to play hard. They might want to have a reason to say something. You want to try and give them that reason," Humphries said. "For me, it's just makes it a little hostile environment - and it's kind of fun to play in that environment. It's good to get the win. We were down by 21. That's funny to say.""
Deron Williams was also phenomenal and marshalled the Nets with a game high 23 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists. Williams scored most of the points in a 17-5 run, the Nets bolted out late in the second frame. Anthony Morrow had 16 points while Johan Petro drained 11 points.
Although Wizards outclassed the Nets in the shooting department, the visitors covered for it on the glass. The Nets out rebounded the Wizards 58-39 and dished out more assists, 17 in contrast to 13.
Nick Young, who helped Wizards in attaining a 21 point lead midway through the second frame, paced them with 16 points including an accurate 4 for 4 from the charity stripe and 6 for 9 from the floor.
