Kris Humphries happy to be back with Brooklyn Nets – NBA Update
Kris Humphries wanted to come back and be a part of the newly found Brooklyn Nets, and on Friday he got his wish, when he signed a two year contract;
"It's a nature of the business, but I always wanted to be back," said Humphries. "There were a lot of things floated out there and I had to explore other things. But this is where I wanted to be. A lot of things went through my
mind, but I wasn't close to making a decision.
"This all came together at the right time."
Humphries has signed a contract for two years which will see him make a total of $24 million. He had also been given a contract extension in early December, prior to the start of last season.
Famous for his 72 day marriage with reality TV star Kim Kardashian and a rather bad choice of women, Humphries was able to average 13.8 points and 11.0 rebounds last season, making it the second best season of his career.
After spending the past two summers as a free agent, he had no intentions of departing the Nets. However he and his agent did consider other options from Cleveland Cavaliers and Charlotte Bobcats.
There had also been speculation the Nets were looking to involve Humphries in a trade pitch that could have brought Dwight Howard over from the Orlando. But as it turned out, that deal was never able to go through and Humphries
is happy to be where he is at the moment.
By making a decision to stay back for the next couple of years, Humphries now gets to be the part of the re-building process, the Nets are going through at the moment. Brooklyn has been the busiest team in the off-season so far
and made some big time moves during the summer.
The Nets have re-signed Deron Williams who they hope to be the core of the re-structuring and have added other key pieces around him. So far the Nets have acquired Joe Johnson in a trade from Atlanta Hawks; re-sign Gerald Wallace
and Brook Lopez, and have also roped in Reggie Evans, Mirza Teletovic and C.J. Watson.
This allows the Nets to be in strong contention for a playoff berth next season – a prospect which Humphries is very excited about.
"We want to be a playoff team. I've been a part of this team through the whole process of first going to Newark, and now to Brooklyn. I'm excited to get things going in Brooklyn. I'm willing to accept whatever my role is. I want
to win and I want to be in the playoffs."
