Kris Medlen’s splendid show hands Atlanta Braves a 3-0 victory against Miami Marlins - MLB

Starter Kris Medlen helps the Atlanta Braves keep the Miami Marlins scoreless and win 3-0 on September 19, 2012 at Marlins Park, Miami in the last game of the three match series.
Medlen continues his impressive run of form as a starter. This time around he hoodwinks Marlins’ batters and restricts them from scoring runs. In light of the fact that the lead which ensured victory to Atlanta eventually was not sufficient and was prone
to be blown, his contribution is decisive.
He completed eight innings and yielded just four hits while striking-out six. He was succeeded by Craig Kimbrel on the mound who then finished the last inning scoreless, claiming his 38th save of the season as a result.
Braves saw their batters relying on conventional run-scoring techniques as opposed to massive home-runs to win the game.
Their right fielder Jason Heyward was unable to get a hit and yet he contributed toward the first run of the game by managing a sacrifice fly. Similarly first baseman Freddie Freeman manipulated for a sacrifice fly which led the base-runner aboard.
Braves’ manager Fredi Gonzalez commented on Medlen, praising the way he earns strikes and inhibits batters from connecting hits. Gonzalez however takes the opportunity to put light on the contribution by the fielders in ensuring success for him.
"I thought he was good. I thought he was really good," Fredi Gonzalez said. "Commanded the strike zone, both sides of the plate. We played some good (defense) behind him. ... That's a byproduct of Medlen pounding the strike zone, getting the ball, throwing
the ball over and keeping guys on their toes."
Seconding the view held by Gonzalez toward Medlen, Marlins’ manager Ozzie Guillen acknowledges that he was the main architect of their demise.
"Medlen threw the c**p out of the ball," Ozzie Guillen said. "We pitched well, but Medlen pitched better. I think this kid is, 'Wow.' He put on a show out there."
The exciting series has concluded now. While the Marlins are out of contention, the Braves will be looking to continue winning in order to secure the Division Championship and edge the Washington Nationals out from their current top position on the table.
It will be interesting to see whether the Braves can end up clinching the Division Championship.
