Kris Sneddon and Amanda Carey win second stage of 2011 Trans-Sylvania Epic: Cycling News
Kona team’s Kris Sneddon won the second stage of 2011 Trans-Sylvania Epic in Rothrock Cooper’s Gap on Monday, May 30.
Kris Sneddon took a total of 4 hours, 3 minutes and 41 seconds to cover the distance of 69 kilometres.
Jeremiah Bishop of the Cannondale team was the runner-up with 1 minute and 24 seconds behind Kris. Justin Lindine of the BikeReg.com/Joe's Garage/Scott team was in the third place with a difference of 8 minutes and 30 seconds.
Jonathan Davis was also in good form, but he grabbed the eighth place with difference of 38 minutes and 17 seconds.
In the beginning of the race, Adam Snyder was the first one to drop out of the race with a flat tyre and the same happened with Alex Grant when the race was about to be finished.
After finishing the stage, Adam Snyder said, “First I dropped my chain so I put it back on but a link was bent. I took it out but that made my chain too short so when I bottomed my suspension it tweaked the derailleur and it eventually shifted into my spokes
and broke one. Then that spoke pushed through my tubeless rim tape and I flatted so I ran my bike to the next check point."
A group of five riders, Kris Sneddon, Sager, Edsall, Justin Lindine and Jeremiah Bishop made their first break. All of them worked together, but after eight miles Sager started sliding backwards and leaving the other riders to go.
Edsall was caught by the other rider, but Bishop showed his good effort and tried his best to cross Sneddon. However, Sneddon proved too fast for the others and crossed the finish-line.
In the women category, Amanda Carey won second stage of Trans-Sylvania Epic 2011. Amanda took a total of 4 hours, 58 minutes and 44 seconds to cover the distance of 69 kilometres.
Selene Yeager of the CF team was runner-up with 1 minute and 30 seconds behind Amanda. Karen Potter of the MTB Race News team was in third place with a difference 1 minute and 9 seconds.
Barclay, Carey, Potter and Yeager took the lead in the last few kilometres of the race, but Yeager had to quit the race, as the tyre burst a couple of times. So the other riders got away in the race.
Carey said, "I just rode my own pace after that, I was kind of glad to be alone for a while and not have to respond to surges."
Barclay and Potter maintained their speed in the race, but both of them failed to cross Carey and with the help of the team Carey crossed the finish line first ahead of other cyclists.
