http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Krishnamachari-Srikkanth-c71750 explains Sehwag, Zaheer axe - Cricket News Update
Chairman of the BCCI selection committee, Kris Srikkanth on Wednesday explained the axing of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/V-Sehwag-c2739 and Zaheer Khan from the squad for next month’s Asia Cup, saying that the duo have not been dropped, but rather they have been rested purely on fitness
grounds.
The Indian cricket board today announced its 15-member squad for the quadrangular one-day tournament, starting in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Z-Khan-c98379, who struggled during the ongoing triangular Commonwealth
Bank series in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, have apparently been dropped from the squad.
However, Srikkanth assured the decision to rest them was taken only after receiving the physiotherapist’s report regarding the duo’s fitness.
"Physiotherapist have advised that both Zaheer and Sehwag need to take rest as they have some injuries,” said Srikkanth while speaking to media reporters after presiding the selection committee’s meeting in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820.
“It is an honest truth, the fact of the matter. I can assure you nobody has been dropped," the 52-year-old former India cricketer told reporters after announcing the 15-member squad for the Asia Cup.
Virender Sehwag could score just 65 runs from five innings at an average of 13 in the ongoing triangular Commonwealth Bank Series in Australia. Zaheer Khan on the other hand claimed just five wickets in four CB series matches he played in.
The BCCI selection committee chief insisted that the squad was announced only after receiving medical reports of the players from the physiotherapist, who is currently in Australia with the team. Srikkanth said that the team management in Australia was also
consulted before finalising the squad.
"This is the best team possible considering the fitness of the players and also taking into account the response of the physiotherapist and board," the BCCI chief selector added further.
In the 10th edition of the Asia Cup starting on March 11 at the Shere Bangla national stadium Mirpur, Bangladesh, India will be defending their title. The opening match of the regional tournament will be played between the hosts and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755.
