BCCI's Chairman of selectors, Kris Srikkanth, looks ahead after his team’s abysmal tour of England, and feels that the focus has now shifted on achieving successes in the upcoming series.
The Men In Blue endured one of their most disappointing defeats in the recently concluded series against the Poms, failing to win any of their matches on the tour.
With injuries and poor form hampering the growth of the team, Srikkanth feels that the home ties with England and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746
at the end of the year.
"Australia is the next target," Srikkanth told the Times of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750. "We have a couple of home series [against England and West Indies] before that and from those matches we'll try and pick the best possible combination for Australia. We have to make up for
the loss in England."
However, during his time, the team managed to lift the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World Cup 2011 in their back yard, and Srikkanth was quick to point out that previously, the team had done exceptionally well under testing conditions.
The English contingent ensured that the team came home beaten, not only mentally but physically, with several senior players having to cut short their tour and head back home.
The chief selector said that one cannot control injuries and the team will have to move forward with a positive frame of mind.
“….What can someone do if http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RG-Sharma-c2309 breaks his finger off the very first ball he faces? You can't really control injuries. “
Srikkanth was one of the fortunate candidates to get a one year extension to his post with the BCCI confirming him for another term at the Annual General Meeting. He will now be working with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohinder-Amarnath-Bhardwaj-c77565, who was appointed as the North Zone selector.
With many senior players out for a considerable period of time, it has given many youngsters an opportunity to cement their place in the side. The first task for the Men In Blue however, will be an ODI series against their recent opponents, whom they would
be desperate to beat on their home turf.
