Kris Tamulis misses the cut once again at the US Women’s Open Championship
Kris Tamulis from Naples has once again failed to make it to the final two rounds of the US Women’s Open Championship, after recording 76 and 75, to miss the cut by two shots at Blackwolf Run Golf Club, in Wisconsin.
According to Tamulis, she played brilliantly, especially off the tee and fairways, as she only missed four greens in regulations.
The only problem that she had was her putter. She utilized too many putts on the second day that cost her under-par score in the end.
Overall, she managed to create many birdie chances on Friday. However, she failed to put them on her scorecard because of the poor finishes she had.
“I hit it great today; four missed greens,” she said. “One bad club. Way, way too many putts. It doesn’t matter how good I hit it or how many times my birdie opportunities are within 15 feet or how good my reads are if I can’t hit it online”.
She started off on the back nine of the course and bogeyed two consecutive holes, starting from the 12th. Thereafter, she managed to par six consecutive holes, prior to sinking a birdie on the second hole.
However, it was the only birdie of her day. Later, she added another two bogeys on the front nine to settle for a seven-over par two-round score.
She looked disappointed as she had received the chance of playing the major for the first time since her last appearance in 2007, when she finished tied for the 35th position.
In the meantime, Suzann Pettersen surged to the top of the leaderboard after firing a five-under par 68 on Friday.
She got off to a slow start and carded a bogey on the fourth hole to go over par early in the round. A birdie on the eighth hole allowed her to touch the par once again.
Thereafter, she picked up some pace and recorded another four birdies on the back nine to take one-stroke margin lead over Michelle Wie and Cristie Kerr.
Despite the lead, Pettersen praised Wie’s performance, as she recorded a four-under par 66 to make a huge surge on the leaderboard.
"I don't know if anyone gave up on me or not," Wie said. "I'm sure some did and some didn't. But I never gave up on myself, and today was a good reminder to myself that I can do (it) and I still have it".
Sandra Gal, who was named as the Hottest Golfer by GolfDigest.com, was further a stroke back to share the fourth position along with Vicky Hurst and Inbee Park.
