The left-arm seamer Krishmar Santokie on Friday said that he is excited by his inclusion in the new look West Indies Twenty20 side to play Pakistan at St. Lucia on 21 April, 2011.
He added that he will try his absolute best to become a mainstay in the national side.
“I'm very proud and I'm glad for the opportunity and I want to make the best possible use of it. This is one of the biggest moments of my career so far,” said the 26-year-old medium pacer while talking to the media reporters in Jamaica.
“I want to keep my spot in T20 set-up for as long as possible. I just need to continue to work hard because it's easier to reach there (into the team) than to remain there,” he added further.
The Jamaica seamer was noticed in the 2010 Caribbean T20 tournament, where he picked up 10 wickets at an average of 10. His performance in the next event was also good as he grabbed 9 wickets at an average of 10.44.
So far, Santokie has played 13 Twenty20 matches from which he has taken 26 wickets. Talking about success in the shortest form of cricket, Santokie said it is due to his ability to pitch the ball in the right areas and to bowl a variety of deliveries. He
further added that yorkers and short ones are the ideal deliveries to contain a batsman in a T20 match.
“Twenty20 is a whole different kind of game so there has to be a great focus on bowling deliveries in the right areas,” said the left-armer. “My control and my ability to bowl yorkers are my strengths because in the Twenty20 game batsmen always want to attack
and play shots and I've never seen a yorker get hit for six.”
The 26-year-old is scheduled to leave for Barbados on Friday to join the team in a four-day fitness camp. The West Indian Cricket Board selectors have picked three other uncapped players as well in the T20 squad.
