Kristian House fastest in fifth stage, Marc Goos celebrates overall win - Cycling News

Rapha Condor – Sharp team’s Kristian House showed a magnificent effort in the fifth and final stage of Vuelta Ciclista a Leon 2011 in Telenauto on Saturday, August 6. Marc Goos took the overall leader’s yellow jersey.
The 31-year-old British racing cyclists took the total of 2 hours, 55 minutes and 12 seconds to cover the distance of 130.7 kilometres.
Recently, Kristian took the first stage and also overall lead in Tour of South Africa. He also won the sixth stage of Tour of Japan and Richmond GP 2010.
Jonathan Gonzalez of Diputacion Leon-Deyser was runner-up and Frode Solberg of Sparebanken Vest-Ridley finished third with the same timing of House.
With 23 kilometres to go, the three cyclists including Wesley Kreder (Rabobank Continental Team), Frode Solberg (Sparebanken Vest – Ridley) and Peter Williams (Motorpoint) managed to gain a lead while Wesley Kreder took the first sprint.
Jonathan Gonzalez launched an attack and took the second sprint of the stage ahead of Frode Solberg. After 79 kilometres, Karol Domagalski (Caja Rural) took a lead ahead of Solberg in the third sprint.
In the final finishing circuit, the four cyclists Kristian House, Jonathan Gonzalez, Frode Solberg and Karol Domagalski took a few seconds lead ahead of other cyclists while Solberg and Domagalski were unable to hold the pace and were caught by the peloton.
Jonathan Gonzalez and House working together but Kristian took a lead and crossed the finish line ahead of the other cyclists.
Filip Eidsheim (Sparebanken Vest – Ridley) was in good form and tried to take a lead but failed to catch the four cyclists and grabbed fifth place with the difference of 53 seconds ahead of Roy Hegreberg (Sparebanken Vest – Ridley) and Fabio Silvestre (Liberty
Seguros-S.M.Feira).
Five cyclists of Supermercados Froiz team including, Angel Vallejo, Raul G.De Mateos, Moises Duenas, Jose A. De Segovia and Angel Vallejo were disqualified.
Marc Goos took overall standing with the timing of 17 hours, 4 minutes and 55 seconds. Jonathan Tiernan-Locke was runner-up with 3 seconds and Enzo Jossue Moyano finished third with 39 seconds behind the Dutch.
