Kristin Armstrong to lead the Women’s Time Trial at the Tour of California 2012
SRAM and AEG have decided to present the Women’s Time Trial at the Amgen Tour of California for the second consecutive season.
The race will take place in Bakersfield, California on Thursday May 17 and will run parallel to the men’s stage of the race.
A total number of ten riders will participate at the event and the last year’s winner Kristin Armstrong will head the race.
The provisional list for the Amgen Tour of California Women’s Time Trial start includes,

2. Jade Wilcoxson (Optum Pro Cycling p/b Kelly Benefits Strategies), USA

3. Alison Tetrick (Exergy TWENTY12), USA

4. Tayler Wiles (Exergy TWENTY12), USA

5. Kristin Armstrong (Exergy TWENTY12), USA

6. Alison Powers (NOW and NOVARTIS for MS), USA

7. Robin Farina (NOW and NOVARTIS for MS), USA
8. Emilia Fahlin (Team Specialized-Lululemon), SWE
9. Loren Rowney (Team Specialized-Lululemon), AUS
10. Bridie O'Donnell (Vanderkitten-Focus), AUS
Kristin Armstrong of Team Exergy TWENTY12 was delighted after receiving the honour and thanked AEG for showing their confidence in her.
Kristin is having a terrific season and has just wrapped up an overall victory at the SRAM Tour of the Gila and is in terrific form for the Californian race.
She noted that the Amgen Tour of California is playing an important role in promoting women’s cycling across the globe.
A total amount of $10,000 will be rewarded to all the ten women starting the 18.4 mile event.
Kristin Bachochin is the Senior Vice President and the Executive Director of the AEG Sports and she has noted that AEG has always supported the women’s cycling.
She briefed, "AEG has the reputation of being staunch advocates and supporters of women's cycling and once again including the women's time trial as part of the Amgen Tour of California is further evidence of our commitment".
"The dedication and spirit of the incredible athletes from around the world who will compete in Bakersfield in the 2012 Amgen Tour of California Women's Time Trial Race should not only be commended but looked upon as examples for young women today embarking
on athletic careers."
US National Champion Alison Powers also encouraged the idea and cited that the Women’s Time Trial is an important aspect of the Tour of California and is a good move towards promoting the women’s cycling.
