Kristin Kuuba and Helina Ruutel secure Women’s Doubles title at Uppsala Junior International 2012
Estonia’s Kristin Kuuba and Helina Ruutel remained lucky in securing Women’s Doubles title as they defeated Jordan Hart and Aimee Moran of Wales with a tight margin in the final showdown of Uppsala Junior International 2012 in Sweden, on Sunday, March 25.
Kristin and Helina, who were second seeds in the championship, had to play to their maximum potential in the title match and they managed to beat their talented opponents in three games.
On the other hand, Jordan and Aimee showed their impressive skills in the match and troubled their opponents throughout the contest. However, they remained unlucky in the final set as they lost it with a narrow margin on the board.
In the first game, Jordan and Aimee started their campaign in an authoritative manner as they played with precision and managed to take a reasonable lead until the end of first half.
Kristin and Helina could not maintain their positive run in the opening half and remained trailing on the score board.
After the break, Kristin and Helina tried to reduce the deficit but they failed to live up to expectations as their lower ranked challengers were impressive in the court.
The second seeded Kristin and Helina lost the first set with a five-point deficit of 16-21.
In the second game, both pairs played positive badminton by keeping the pace of rallies at the maximum level. They remained close in the first part of second set.
After the break, Kristin and Helina changed their tactics and became aggressive in all areas of the court.
They controlled the pace of rallies and managed to level the match by taking the second set with a 21-17 score on the board.
In the deciding set, both sides entertained the crowd with their flawless and top quality play. They progressed in the game without taking any lead.
The score reached at the hear-throbbing stage of 22-22 when Kristin and Helina showed their brilliance and scored two consecutive points to take the game with a dramatic margin of 24-22.
Kristin and Helina bagged this Women’s Doubles final showdown in 37 minutes with a 16-21, 21-17 and 24-22 score on the board.
