Kristin Mcgrath wins the stage 5 of the Team Exergy Twenty 12
Kristin Mcgrath of Team Exergy Twenty 12 won stage five of the Cascade Cycling Classic, after the cyclist crossed the finish-line in the quickest time of 2 hours, 11 minutes and 30 seconds.
Theresa Cliff-Ryan fell seven seconds short at the second spot with Alison Powers, Carmen Small and Megan Guarnier holding the next three positions.
The cyclist was delighted after her terrific performance and thanked her team-mates for their continuous support during the race.
"We weren't worried about GC," McGrath said of her Exergy-TWENTY12 teammates. "The GC riders were all watching each other, then some people attacked, so I countered and just kept going. I saw my lead was opening, so I just put my head down".
Alison Powers also rode exceptionally well but had to settle down for the second overall spot after the race.
"We were sort of riding with our heads in our a*s yesterday," Powers said. "So today we pulled them out and it's awesome".
"[Optum was] trying with Jade and Carmen and Jade and Carmen, but you just have to pick, like, OK let Jade go up the road. Our plan was so well executed, the team was awesome".
Amanda Miller, Kristin McGrath and Andrea Dvorak were the top three cyclists after the queens of mountains classifications while Rachel Warner, Jade Wilcoxson and Amanda Miller were the top cyclists after the first sprint of the race.
Heather Fischer, Jackie Kurth, Kate Chillcott, Kimberley Turner and Jenny Rios were the top five young riders on the day.
Alison Powers of Team NOW dominate the stage 5 classifications with Carmen Small of Team Optum pb Kelly Benefit Strategies holding the second spot with a deficit of 8 seconds.
Megan Guarnier of Team TIBCO, Jade Wilcoxson of Team Optum pb Kelly Benefit Strategies and Kristin McGrath of Team Exergy Twenty 12 occupied the third, fourth and fifth positions in the respective order.
Jade Wilcoxson leads the sprint classifications with 14 points in her pocket while Carmen Small, Theresa Cliff-Ryan, Kristin McGrath and Megan Guarnier occupied the next four positions in the respective order.
Lex Albrecht, Lindsay Myers, Heather Fischer, Ruth Winder and Jacquelyn Crowell are the top five names after the young rider classifications.
