Kristina Barrois dumps Kristina Mladenovic in the opening qualifying round – Qatar Ladies Open 2012
German veteran tennis ace, Kristina Barrois, ousted the French teenager veteran player, Kristina Mladenovic, in the opening qualifying round of the Qatar Ladies Open. The players contested for a considerable period of time
before the German booked a berth in the next round; winning the opening encounter in straight sets 6-4, 6-2.
On Saturday, both contestants squared-off at the courts for the first time in their professional careers, looking to qualify for the main round of the $2 168 400 WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Premier-level tournament.
The French professional was enjoying a good run of form, winning seven of her last encounters, whilst her opponent was struggling badly with just five wins in her last ten. Apparently, it was expected to be a cracking encounter but the teenager fell for the
experience her counterpart and couldn’t utilize her windy pace at all.
Barrois started the match in sloppy fashion but her opponent failed to capitalize on the opportunities provided to her. With first six games going without a breakpoint, the veteran revitalized her game plan and improvised
a bit. She started advancing towards the net and was successful with her new ploy; broke serve in the seventh game and took the lead. The teenager contestant couldn’t fight back to bring down the trail and lost the opening set.
The second set started in the same fashion as the first one did, with both players capitalizing on their serves. After first four games were bagged by respective serve players, Barrois broke serve again to take the lead in
the set and exerted immense pressure on her opponent. Despite blistering pace to defend her inexperience, the French failed to bounce back, rather, gifted another serve game to her opponent. Barrois prepared to serve for the set and easily cracked down her
opponent with no pressure at all.
Barrois marched ahead to the next round of the tournament to play the winner of the match between the seventh seed Russian tennis ace, Vera Dushevina and the American underdog, Abigail Spears.
In another opening set encounter, Urszula Radwanska progress to second qualifying round, courtesy after her opponent, Lesya Tsurenko, who retired from the contest during the second set due to an injury.
