Kristina Mladenovic breezes past
Maša Zec Peskiric in 1st round – Slovak Open 2011
Unseeded Frenchwoman Kristina Mladenovic trounced unseeded Slovenian Maša Zec Peskiric in the first round of the Slovak Open 2011.
The two players encountered against each other on indoor hard courts of the Národné Tenisové Centrum in Bratislava, Slovakia. On Wednesday the 16th of November 2011, it took the unseeded Frenchwoman a meagre one hour
and thirty seven minutes to outclass the unseeded Slovenian by battering her in straight sets of 6-3, 7-5.
The first round of the match was initiated by Mladenovic after she had won the service toss and she was unable to hold her service game. On the contrary, Peskiric took a mini lead by reeling two consecutive games. However, Mladenovic
first held her serve in the third game and then in the fourth broke back to mitigate the deficit by equalizing the score at two games each by the end of the fourth game.
During the fifth game the Frenchwoman held her respective serve and then in the sixth capitalized on breakpoint to take a mini lead at the end of the sixth game. Subsequently, in the following two games the player bagged a service
game each and then the score had shifted to 5-3 at the end of the eighth game. As the Frenchwoman served for the set, she smashed a beautiful forehand winner to secure the opening set and had taken the competitive edge.
Peskiric decided to open the second set and in a reversal of fate, she double faulted on her serve. Mean while, Mladenovic was quick to bag the two games and took a mini lead of two games to love. In the following four games the
players bagged their respective serves and by the end of the sixth game the score had shifted to 4-2 with the Frenchwoman leading the game.
In a turn of events, Peskiric held her serve in the seventh game and reduced the deficit to 3-4 but as she broke her adversary in the eighth game she completely mitigated the deficit by equalizing the score at four games each.
In subsequent two games, the players broke each other one after the other and the score tied at five games each.
At this stage in the match, either player could’ve won the game as neither player was ready to throw in the towel. However, Peskiric forehand shot went wayward and she endorsed a vital game to her opponent, who was now only a game
away from victory. As the Frenchwoman held her serve for the last time, she sealed her victory of the set and the match.
Up next for the Frenchwoman is top seeded Ukrainian Lesia Tsurenko in the second round of the tournament.
