Kristina Mladenovic crushes Melanie Oudin in the quarter-finals – Bell Challenge 2012
World number 123, Kristina Mladenovic of France, played a perfect game of tennis to score a one sided win over the 115th ranked player from USA, Melanie Oudin, in the quarter-finals of the Bell Challenge in Quebec City, Canada
on Friday.
The French contestant dropped only one game in the entire match, clinching the contest in straight sets 6-0, 6-1 in just an hour and three minutes.
Mladenovic was not stoppable in the first set, keeping a clean sheet throughout. The Frenchwoman did not allow Oudin to win even a single game till the end, breaking her three times and holding her entire serves to capture it 6-0.
The 19-year-old, who came to the qualifying rounds, had a pathetically low first serve percentage of 35. Though, she succeeded in converting all the seven of them into points and banged in a couple of aces too. The 5ft 11in tall
was also error free on the second returns, grabbing all the five points on them. The French participant put away the only break threat she came across and availed all the three break chances she created.
Mladenovic started the second set exactly from where she had stopped in the first, claiming opening three games to build a 3-0 lead. Oudin finally succeeded in holding her serve to win her first one of the match. The American opened
her account after losing nine consecutive games and avoided some embarrassment, at least. However, that was all for the 20-year-old, as she lost three more straight games to lose the second set 1-6.
The Frenchwoman pounded four aces and grabbed 12 of the 15 points on them. The Porrentruy, Switzerland resident performed quite well on the second returns once again, clinching six of the nine points. She converted two of the five
break points she received this time.
Mladenovic said while talking to the reporters after the match, "I've had a few tough matches already this week and I was expecting a tough one today too, but it was much quicker than I thought it would be. A lot of the games were
close, so it was still tough, but I think she was making a lot more unforced errors today than she usually does. Sometimes it happens like this. But I'm happy I'm through to my first WTA semi-final."
The French contender will take on the eighth seed, Lucie Hradecka of Czech Republic, in the semi-finals.
