Kristina Mladenovic overcomes Kimiko Date-Krumm in the quarters – OEC Taipei WTA Ladies Open 2012
French teenager, Kristina Mladenovic, registered a thumping straight sets victory over the Japanese veteran, Kimiko Date-Krumm, in the quarter-final round of the OEC Taipei WTA Ladies Open on Friday. The 98th ranked
French barely took 57 minutes to blast her way through straight sets, 6-3, 6-0, booking a berth in the semi-finals of the WTA event in Taipei.
42-year-old Date-Krumm proved no match for the French teenager and was clearly beaten in every segment of the game. Mladenovic’s agility and supple footwork didn’t allow the Japanese veteran to fire many winners in the match. Date-Krumm
could secure merely three games in the entire matchup, suffering a bagel in the second set and recorded her exit from the tournament in a dismal manner.
Mladenovic took off the opener in a belligerent manner, breaking the Japanese serve early to impose her lead in the contest. Further serve holds from the 42-year-old couldn’t bridge the score deficit and the French youngster sustained
her lead in the set. Mladenovic had a formidable serve game in the opener, dropping merely one point on her first serve to claim 17 out of 18. She eventually served out of the first set at 6-3 to get in the driving seat.
Date-Krumm’s game slumped further in the following set as the 19-year-old came out firing at her. Mladenovic launched a series of forays upon her Japanese rival, breaking her in every single serve game and cruising away to victory
in style. She converted three out of four break points and sealed her victory with a 6-0 score line.
The overall match stats clearly show the dominance of the 19-year-old French contender. Although she coughed five double faults in the contest, Mladenovic clinched 25 out of 29 first serve points and broke her opponent four out
of six times en route to victory. On the other hand, the veteran squandered three priceless break opportunities to remain at a disadvantage throughout the competition. Out of the total 90 points being played in the match, Date-Krumm could only win 34, whilst
her French opponent bagged 56 points to enter the semi-final round of the OEC Taipei WTA Ladies Open.
