  1. Are you kidding me?!?

You actually sent those Nigerian crooks some money???

    How foolish!

I don't mean to burst your bubble here but you have lost that money for sure!

You'll know better next time, right?

For your own sake, I sure hope so!

Whatever you do from now on, do NOT send those thieves any more money - understood?

Where are you originally from by the way?

P.S. Your question should be in the "Montreal" section, not "Quebec" dear!

  2. If you responded to an unsolicited email offering a job to you from any hoetl like the OMNI or the PLAZA, you have become a victim of a scam. You have lost $125 and if you send them any more money, you will lose that too.

The scam is known as "phishing", where they pretend to be from a reputable company or business, but then steal people's money and disappear into the night.

My suggestion is that you contact the RCMP, which is Canada's federal police force in charge of international crimes.

They will either tell you that there is nothing they can do for you, or they may collect the details of the email address and account or mailing address where you sent the money. Hopefully, they can catch the criminals who are preying upon honest immigrants who want to come to Canada and find a job.

You can also try to reach the official hotel website and ask them about this. Here is their address:

    http://www.omnihotels.com/FindAHotel/Mon...

Make sure that you call them using the numbers on their websites, not send them email to some Yahoo, Gmail, or MSN account, and not call any phone number they supplied in the email.

  3. Basically the answer above gave you the facts.  This is a common fraud over the Internet which involves offering people a job then asking for money to cover the processing fees.  This particular one has been posted several times here.

    Things to remember:

No legitimate employer will send unsolicited job offers, if you have not applied to them, they are not going to go looking for you.  Any job offers received this way should go into the trash.

If you have put your name into a job database confirm with it prior to proceeding with the job application.  This is one case where you can receive offers without a specific application.  By entering your information you are applying to the employers that use the site.  However be aware that fraudulent employers may try to access this information and use it to get money from you.

If you received a job offer that requests money from you then it is generally fraudulent.  If the job offer was legitimate, the employer can easily arrange for you to pay them back out of your salary.

Never respond to a job offer through the links in the email, find the email site independently and confirm with the employer that it is legitimate.  They will either confirm, deny, or not reply (which means the offer is fraudulent).
