Kristoffer Broberg close to his European Tour card, as he leads the Rolex Trophy after round three
Sweden’s Kristoffer Broberg took the commanding lead after round three of the Rolex Trophy and brightened his chances of a third victory of the European Challenge Tour in just five starts.
Broberg got off to a slow start on the back nine of the Golf Club de Geneve and suffered a bogey. Afterwards, he never stopped creating birdie chances and managed to drain five of them till the end of the 18th hole – his 9th.
On the front nine, it seemed as if he mirrored his first-nine-hole performance and carded the same number of birdies and bogeys for an eight-under par 64.
His overall score of 23-under par at the end of three rounds put him three strokes ahead of Dane Joachim B Hansen and South Korea’s Sihwan Kim.
“That was definitely the best I’ve played all week, I hit a lot of good shots and holed a lot of putts,” he said. “Obviously it was disappointing to start with a bogey and finish with another one on the last, but in between times I was very solid”.
“My confidence is obviously very high at the moment, so even if I make a mistake I know I can get it back on the next hole,” he added. “Hopefully I can get to 30 under par tomorrow – that would be a very special way to win the tournament!”
Broberg won the Finnish Challenge and the Norwegian Challenge early the month prior to finishing tied for the third position in Denmark last week.
This week, he aims to make it to the tier one European Tour in a record setting way by taking the Rolex title home.
If he succeeds in remaining on top at the end of the tournament, he will have the choice to play any of the European Tour tournaments, starting from the next week.
Daniel Vancsik, who registered a record-setting 10-under par 62 in the opening round, followed by a 71 in the second, surged into contention once again with an impressive eight-under par 64. He now holds the sole fourth position with a 19-under par three
round score.
