Kristoffer Broberg finishes second at the Alfred Dunhill Championship
Kristoffer Broberg carded a two-under par 70, in the final round of the Alfred Dunhill Championship, to finish second on the leaderboard, on Sunday, December 16, 2012.
The tournament was being staged at the Leopard Creek Country Club, featuring some of the prominent names on the European Tour.
Broberg burst on the golfing scene after recording victories in four of the first six starts that he made on the 2012 European Challenge Tour. As a result, he instantly earned his way onto the tier-one European Tour.
Entering the final round of the Alfred Dunhill Championship, he held the third position on the leaderboard.
Meanwhile, when Gregory Bourdy faltered for an even-par 72, the Swede star took advantage of the scenario and surged to the second spot on the leaderboard.
Despite recording a strong finish in the tournament, he insisted that he was not planning big for his rookie season on the European Tour.
Talking to the European Tour’s official website, he said that he played poorly in the last two rounds in South Africa.
He also said that he was more than happy with his final position on the leaderboard, rather than with his overall performance in the tournament.
“I actually played pretty badly again today, for the second day running!” said Broberg. “But the positives were I scrambled well and made a few big putts so I’m happy with result more than the performance”.
He added, “My driving was wild, I was pulling everything but fortunately I got away with it and things went my way in terms of how everyone else played and I got a great finish in the end”.
The Swede pocketed €172,500 as prize money, for finishing second on the leaderboard. It was around €50,000 more money, compared to his overall earnings during the 2012 European Challenge Tour season.
After receiving the prize cheque, he expressed his pleasure in making a strong start in The Race to Dubai.
“It’s amazing to get off to such a good start in The Race to Dubai in my first season as a European Tour Member,” said the 26-year-old.
