Kristoffer Broberg makes it to the European Tour after making just five starts on the Challenge Tour
Kristoffer Broberg fired a four-under par 68 on Sunday and became the only player in the history of the European Challenge Tour to make it to the tier one European Tour in just five starts.
Broberg birdied the final hole of the day and won the Rolex Trophy, his third of the season, with a one-stroke margin over Sihwan Kim, who was eyeing the first victory of his career on the tour.
Right from the start of his career on the Challenge Tour, Broberg succeeded in grabbing everyone’s attention. He recorded a ninth-place finish at the ALLIANZ Open Côtes d’Armor Bretagne, followed by victories in the Finnish Challenge and the Norwegian Challenge.
Thereafter, he slightly missed the chance of completing his hat-trick of wins, when he tied for the third place at the ECCO Tour Championship, hosted by Thomas Björn & Mercedes-Benz, his fourth start of the season.
In Geneva, he finally achieved his goal of making it to the bigger stage and recorded his name in the history books.
“It’s so amazing, I’m just so happy,” he said. “I couldn’t believe it when that putt on the last hole dropped in – it was an incredible feeling. I always go for putts, so I never considered just rolling it up to the hole – I’ve always been positive with
my putts”.
He continued, “I didn’t putt very well today, but it’s great to know I can make big putts when I need to. I can’t describe how it feels – it hasn’t really hit me yet, but I’m sure it will”.
He will now head to Crans-sur-Sierre in Crans Montana, where he will participate in the European Tour’s Omega European Masters.
“I can’t wait to play on The European Tour, I’m playing so well and my confidence is so high at the moment that I feel like I can compete out there”.
Broberg also plans to play as many events as he can because of the great form he is currently enjoying in the 2012 golf season. He believes that he can keep the winning momentum going into the European Tour and record some more wins this year.
