Kristoffer Broberg takes halfway lead at the Finnish Challenge
Kristoffer Broberg of Sweden set a blistering pace on Firday, at Kytäjä Golf’s South East Course, to take a one-shot lead with seven-under after two rounds of the European Challenge Tour’s Finnish Challenge.
Broberg started off on the back nine of the course and recorded four-birdies against a lone bogey to go three-under for the round. The back nine saw him pick up some pace and he recorded five birdies against a lone bogey through the first eight holes he
played.
That was a time when he had a three-stroke lead over his competitors. However, a double bogey to end the round decreased his lead to one stroke with a five-under par second-round score.
“It was a disappointing finish, especially on a short hole, but overall I’m very happy with how I’m playing and to be in this position,” said Broberg.
According to him, his putting was great throughout the opening two rounds, which was the main reason behind his remarkable performance so far.
“My putting was great today – it felt like I couldn’t miss,” he said. “This is only my second Challenge Tour event and it’s still very new to me, so I’m happy to play like this. It’s an unfamiliar situation to be leading a Challenge Tour event, but I’m used
to it from the Nordic League, so hopefully I will cope with it well at the weekend”.
He also stated that the venue was very similar to Bro Hof Slott located in Sweden. Therefore, he did not feel any difficulty in getting used to the conditions.
Espen Kofstad, the winner of the Doubletree by Hilton Acaya Open last month, surged to share the second place with a four-under par second round score.
He told that he was hitting the ball very well and his game off the tee had been great right from the start of the tournament. According to him, he is getting the right distances and landings whenever he plays a stroke.
Therefore, he is optimistic about his performance in the remaining two rounds and is ready to give a tough competition to the top contenders in the field.
Wil Besseling, Reinier Saxton, Roland Steiner and Mark Tullo were the other players who joined him on the leaderboard with a six-under par two-round score.
