Kristoffer Broberg takes the halfway lead at the Rolex Trophy
Kristoffer Broberg fired a bogey-free six-under par 66 for a 15-under total of 129 and the outright lead before the bad light that suspended the play on day two of the Rolex Trophy on Thursday, August 23, 2012.
Broberg continued his great form in his rookie season and has once again threatened his opponents on the second-tier European Challenge Tour.
Prior to making his fifth start this year at the Golf Club de Geneve, he recorded two victories along with a tied third place finish, to take the fourth spot in the Challenge Tour Rankings.
Therefore, another error-free performance did not shock anyone present in the field. In fact, it was pretty much expected that he might get to the top early in the tournament.
He sank three birdies each before and after the turn, to take a one-stroke lead over Joachim B Hansen and Sihwan Kim, who posted rounds of 65 and 64, respectively.
As per Broberg’s current position in the tour rankings, he can easily qualify for the European Tour’s upcoming season.
However, he wants it to be done in a better fashion. He plans to record another victory this year that will earn him a full-time status for the 2013 elite European Tour.
According to him, he did not play well on the second day. Yet, he managed to post a good score on the leaderboard, which is a good sign for the 26-year-old Swede.
“I didn’t actually play that well today, particularly at the start of the round, when I hit quite a few loose shots,” he said.
“But fortunately my wedge game was really sharp all day, so that got me out of trouble when I needed it to. I scored much better than I played today, and that was down to my short game and especially my putting”.
“But I suppose it’s a good sign that I can shoot 66 without playing all that well,” he added. “I played much better on the back nine though and holed some great putts, so that gives me a lot of confidence to take into the next two rounds”.
