Kristoffer Broberg’s brilliance continues on the European Challenge Tour
Kristoffer Broberg’s brilliant run of European Challenge Tour victories continued, as he won the Crowne Plaza Copenhagen Challenge hosted by Royal Golf Club on Sunday, October 21, 2012.
It was Broberg’s fourth victory of the season in just six starts. The Swede turned professional midway through the 2012 golf season and started playing on the Challenge Tour.
In his first start at the ALLIANZ Open Côtes d’Armor Bretagne, he tied for the ninth position and left his rivals stunned on the tour.
He then recorded his first victory at the Finnish Challenge and joined the league of Challenge Tour winners.
At the Norwegian Challenge, the very next tournament that he played, he assured his worth as a quality player by winning two events in a row.
The second victory also confirmed that winning the Finnish Challenge was not just a ‘Fluke’. A couple of weeks later, he won the Rolex Trophy, which earned him a full-time playing card for the European Tour.
After playing four European Tour events, he returned to the Challenge Tour and once again outshined his opponents at the Royal Golf Club in Copenhagen, Denmark.
His four-under par 67 score in the final round allowed him to take a three-stroke victory over his closest rival, Simon Wakefield. Broberg finished with a 14-under par overall score.
Mikko Korhonen and Daniel Brooks were way behind at a five-under par tournament score and shared the third spot on the leaderboard.
“It feels absolutely amazing,” said Broberg. “This is a dream and I never imagined I would be this successful so quickly”.
He added, “I wasn’t nervous at any point today. I knew I was playing very well and I was just having fun out there. We had a big crowd watching and it is a fantastic course, so it has been another very enjoyable week”.
Talking to the reporters, he also expressed his wish of making it to the European Ryder Cup team one day.
“Now I have to think about my goals. I want to finish top of the Rankings next week, but after that who knows. I would love to play in The Ryder Cup one day,” he said.
