Kristoffer Knudsen beats Helgi Johannesson to enter into quarter-final of Iceland International 2011
Denmark’s talented and aggressive shuttler Kristoffer Knudsen proved his mettle as he defeated Iceland’s Helgi Johannesson in the Men’s Singles round-of-16 of the Iceland International 2011, on Friday, November 11, in Iceland.
Knudsen had to dig deep to beat his talented opponent in a three-set entertaining match. The Danish consumed 43 minutes to prove his worth against the local shuttler by employing his wonderful skills. He is now looking forward to stretch his winning run
in the event by playing with the same spirit in the quarter-final.
In the first game of the match, Knudsen played phenomenal badminton against Johannesson and showed no mercy in the whole set. The impressive strokes of the Indonesian landed perfectly in all areas of his opponent’s court and earned him a wonderful position
in the opening set of this Men’s Singles fight. Knudsen was leading with a small lead of 11-10 until the break.
The local player changed his strategy in the second part of the set but Knudsen was quicker in all areas of the court and was playing with precision. Both shuttlers remained close until the score reached at the concluding phase when the Danish played well
and took the game with a dramatic score of 25-23.
It was a completely different story in the second set of the match as Johannesson played stunning game this time and showed no signs of slowing down in the whole game. Knudsen failed to continue his positive performance as his opponent was quicker at the
net and dominated the rallies most of the time. Knudsen lost the second set with a 15-21 score on the board.
Knudsen found his momentum back in the third game of the match as he played with great confidence and wonderful precision. He dominated the game in the whole set and remained successful in winning it with a remarkable margin of 21-12. This entertaining three-set
contest finished off in 43 minutes with the score of 25-23, 15-21 and 21-12.
In the quarter-final, Knudsen will face Raj Popat of Wales, who defeated the Haukur Stefansson of Iceland in two sets in the round-of-16.
