Kristyna Pliskova bows out to Dinah Pfizenmaier in first qualifier – Roland Garros French Open 2012
Czech booming starlet, Kristyna Pliskova, lost to her German age-fellow, Dinah Pfizenmaier, in the first qualifier of the Roland Garros French Open on Wednesday. She won the first set but was swiped out in the rest of two sets,
losing 6-2, 2-6, 1-6.
The Czech commenced the match with a serve hold and broke serve to take a lead of 2-0. She stamped her authority by registering another emphatic serve hold to enhance the lead to 3-0. Pfizenmaier couldn’t break the shackles in
the first set and continued to take the battering at the hands of her Czech age-fellow.
Finally, the misery for the German ended but not before the Czech took the first set with ease. World number 150, Pliskova, looked outstanding on the red dirt and she was pressing hard to win the qualifier to improve her ranking.
However, the German fought back into the contest with a breakthrough in the first game of the second set. Pliskova held her opponent in the fourth game and levelled the scores at 2-2 but gifted the break back to the German in the
following game that forced her down to a trail of 2-3. It was enhanced to 2-4 by the German with a cracking serve hold.
Pliskova failed to handle the onslaught and lost another breakpoint in the meantime. German world number 194 served for the set and successfully crushed the Czech to enforce the final battle.
The momentum was with the German contender who broke serve in the opening game and repeated the performance in the fifth game to take an unassailable lead of 4-1. Pliskova lost heart and just played through the rest of the points
with no enthusiasm at all. She didn’t try to keep the match alive and lost another breakthrough that gifted the win to her rival.
Dinah Pfizenmaier will contest her second qualifier against the Portuguese starlet, Monica Puig. She would look to register another breakthrough and advanced the final stages of the qualifier that will also help her improve her
ranking. However, the form of Puig won’t allow her an easy route to the next stage for sure.
