Kristyna Pliskova dumps Tata Moore to reach the quarter-final – AEGON Trophy 2012 CH
Czech Republic’s booming star, Kristyna Pliskova, eased ahead into the third round of the AEGON Trophy on Wednesday at an expense of the 19-year-old Briton, Tata Moore, who received a wildcard to play in the tournament. It was
easy straight sets 6-3, 6-1 victory for the Czech qualifier.
The opening set witnessed a very tight battle. Both players continued to capitalize on their serves and didn’t look to be in any sort of trouble at all. However, the deadlock was broken by the in-form Czech who broke serve in the
sixth game to take a lead of 4-2.
Technically, the breakthrough was gifted by the Briton who missed simple winners and hit the ball straight at the throat of the net. The mistakes proved suicidal as Pliskova kept on manoeuvring the ball at her will on her serves
and didn’t allow her competitor to level the scores.
The second set was pure class from the Czech beauty starlet who broke serve in the opening game and doubled her lead in the following return game that sunk the Briton in a massive trail. First four games were easily bagged by the
Czech and she cruised on to a lead of 5-1 with her opponent just wondering about the happenings in the last few minutes.
Hardly thirty minutes had passed by and the Czech broke serve for the third time in the set to round off the proceedings in her favour. It was a brilliant performance from the qualifier who was short of some confidence after failing
to reach the main round of the French Open.
Another booming Briton, Laura Robson, fell in the trap of the experience compatriot, Anne Keothavong, who dumped her in straight sets. Another successful British winner was the best friend of Laura Robson, Heather Watson, who completed
the rain interrupted match against Melanie Oudin. She won the match in an epic fashion; losing the first set but winning the second one with ease and dumping the rival in the tie-breaker round of the final. Su-Wei Hsieh and Coco Vandeweghe were two more successful
second round players who move into the quarter-final stage of the tournament.
