Krisztian Takacs and Marleen Veldhuis impress in Dubai: Day two – 2011 FINA Swimming World Cup
Hungary’s Krisztian Takacs proved her swimming skills on day two of the 2011 FINA Swimming World Cup in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on Saturday, October 8. The evening session conducted the Men's 50m freestyle and Women’s 50m butterfly finals.
Both, Krisztian Takacs and Jason Dunford of Kenya got-off to a thrilling start and hit the finishing wall with a matching time of 21.78 seconds to share Men’s 50m freestyle title. In the meantime, Ukraine’s Andrii Govorov developed an acrobatic swim and
powered the finishing wall with a wonderful mark of 21.93 seconds to win the bronze medal.
In addition, Velimir Stjepanovic of United Arab Emirates earned fourth place honours with a scintillating mark of 22.82 seconds. Furthermore, Tiago Ferrao of United Arab Emirates picked fifth spot in a time of 22.91 seconds. In the corresponding swim, Ramadhan
Vyombo of Kenya was placed sixth in a time of 23.80 seconds, while Kolin Kevin Riazanov of United Arab Emirates settled for seventh position in a time of 23.86 seconds. Last, but not the least, Kolin Kevin Riazanov’s compatriot earned eighth place in 24.23
seconds.
Afterwards, Marleen Veldhuis put up a stunning show against her competitors, Ranomi Kromowidjojo of Netherlands and Yu Hang Sze of Hong Kong, by posting a thrilling time of 26.02 seconds to win the Women’s 50m butterfly title. Meanwhile, Kromowidjojo and
Hang Sze finished second and third with a mark of 26.08 and 26.98 seconds, respectively.
In the corresponding race, Louise Hansson of Sweden finished fourth in a time of 27.05 seconds and Celine Bertrand of Sweden settled fifth in a time of 27.71 seconds. Moreover, Joanne Gwen Beek Van of United Arab Emirates earned sixth in 29.18 seconds and
Caitlin Benstead finished seventh after she crossed the finishing line in a time of 30.38 seconds. Lianna Swan of Pakisatan earned eighth place honours after she ended her swim in a time of 32.26 seconds.
The top-three meet winners were awarded accolades and cash prizes due to their scintillating swims after the session’s completion.
