Kruger/Vinsant, Dubarenco/Manafov advance to the semi-final of boys’ doubles – French Open 2011
Mitchell Krueger/Shane Vinsant beat Oliver Golding/Jiri Vesely 6-4, 4-6, 10-8
Mitchell Krueger and Shane Vinsant of USA upset top seeded British/Czech pair of Oliver Golding and Jiri Vesely in three sets 6-4, 4-6, 10-8 in the quarterfinals of boys’ doubles event at French Open, Roland Garros on Thursday.
It took Krueger and Vinsant an hour and twelve minutes to oust their opponents.
The Americans needed a single break of serve in the first set to win it 6-4. Krueger and Vinsant fired 66 percent of the first serves, grabbing 76 percent of the points on them. The unseeded duo put a great effort to save all the
four break points they faced in the first set. The Americans converted the only break point opportunity they created in the opening set.
Golding and Vesely bounced back in the second set and broke Krueger and Vinsant in the first and third game, racing to a 4-0 lead. However, Krueger and Vinsant fought back in style and broke back twice to level the score at 4-4.
After that, Golding and Vesley bagged two straight games and won the set 6-4.
The Americans clinched a late mini-break in the match tie-break and bagged it 10-8. The unseeded team delivered 78 percent of the first serves and won 71 percent of the points on them in the match tie-break.
Krueger and Vinsant will meet Serbian/Bulgarian combination of Miki Jankovic and Dimitar Kuzmanov in the semi-finals.
Maxim Dubarenco/Vladyslav Manafov defeat Aslan Karatsev/Evgeny Karlovskiy 6-1, 6-4
Moldovan/Ukrainian team of Maxim Dubarenco and Vladyslav Manafov prevailed over Aslan Karatsev and Evgeny Karlovskiy in straight sets 6-1, 6-4 to proceed to the semi-final of boys’ doubles event. The match lasted for 55 minutes.
Dubarenco and Manafov thrashed their opponents in the first set, breaking the Russians thrice and allowing them to win only one game. The Moldovan/Ukrainian duo served out the set in the seventh game, winning it 6-1. Dubarenco
and Manafov returned quite well in the first set as they won an amazing 63 percent of the receiving points. The Moldovan/Ukrainian pair failed in saving the only break point they faced but managed to win three of the five break points on their opponents’ serve
in the first set.
In the second set, Dubarenco and Manafov broke the Russians in the fifth game and consolidated on it to take a 4-2 lead. They did not allow their opponents to break back, winning the set 6-4 in just 33 minutes. The Moldovan/Ukrainian
team capitalised on the only break point they received and saved both break points they faced in the second set. Dubarenco and Manafov won 33 out of 60 points in the second set.
The Moldovan/Ukrainian pair is drawn to play Andres Artunedo Martinavarr and Roberto Carballes Baena of Spain in the semi-finals.
