Kruger and Sterne participate in the Telkom PGA Championship with big plans
Jbé Kruger and Richard Sterne hope to be the best at the South African tournament - Telkom PGA Championship at Country Club, Johannesburg, this week, but are facing a tough battle from their rivals.
The Telkom PGA Championship is being staged by the Sunshine Tour and most of the South African players are performing and competing well against each other. The total prize fund is R 2,500,000.
Two rounds have been finished, with surprising results appearing on the leaderboard. Keith Horne is the current leader of the event, as he scored an 11-under par.
Kruger is tied for the seventh position, as he displayed amazing strokes. After the completion of two rounds, he scored 70 and 68, respectively, and an overall 6-under par.
“I had my feet back on the ground as early as Monday. The win was cool and I waited a long time for it, but this is a new week. Of course I’d love to win this title, but last week’s victory won’t carry me through this week,” he commented.
Kruger also said that this tournament is huge and the most important of all, it is being played in South Africa.
He added that playing at such an amazing site is impressive. Kruger is now increasing his popularity by displaying a skillful game.
Sterne is currently at the 56th position and is working hard to improve his position on the leaderboard by some impressive birdies.
His performance is not as appealing as Kruger. Sterne’s scoring average and driving distance needs improvements.
He had also suffered from a back injury last year, at the same tournament. However, he is playing in good condition this year. Despite being healthy, his performance is unimpressive.
“My back feels good. It’s not 100 per cent there, but it’s not affecting my golf swing, which is good. I’m hitting the ball well. I just need to sharpen up my short game and start scoring. But I like this course so it should be a good week,” Sterne said.
Kruger and Sterne, both, had practised together before the tournament. They were confident to lead the tournament, but due to increased competition and tough rivals, they need to make an extra effort on the course.
There are ample chances for both players to improve their positions on the leaderboard by displaying a tremendous performance at the Country Club Johannesburg.
