Kruger van Wyk named New Zealand’s primary wicketkeeper – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kruger-van-Wyk-c1811 has been named the Black Caps’ number one wicketkeeper, as confirmed by New Zealand Cricket manager, Kim Littlejohn.
“We’re saying that Kruger is our preferred test keeper at the moment. We’re looking at him as the incumbent test keeper,” said Littlejohn.
Van Wyk is http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MV-Boucher-c2048. However, Boucher
showed no signs of stepping down, prompting van Wyk to take up his coach Dave Nosworthy’s offer to move to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Canterbury-c775 in New Zealand.
The 32-year old has had a fruitful career in the domestic circuit, with 102 First-class matches, and 115 List-A matches under his belt. However, he has only played for the national side once before, during his debut in March this year in a 3-match Test series
against the visiting South African team. He proved a consistent wicketkeeper, in addition to averaging 24.60 with the bat – despite this, initially he was only taken to be a replacement for injured original wicketkeeper B.J. Watling.
However, the right-hander’s career took an upward turn yesterday, when he was awarded his first national contract, with Littlejohn confirming that the recent developments implied that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graham-Robert-Cowdrey-c60631 Wyk was the Kiwis’ primary gloveman at the moment.
26-year-old Watling has served as another option for New Zealand as far as wicketkeeping is concerned. The right-hander has played a total of 7 Tests for the national team, during which he has taken 13 catches. He scored his maiden century (an unbeaten 102)
in the last match he played, against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757.
With the exact timing of Watling’s comeback to the squad uncertain, NZC have turned to van Wyk to act as keeper during the team’s upcoming tour of the West Indies, scheduled to begin on June 30. Littlejohn has refrained from confirming any one player for
the position of wicketkeeper, however, saying that the board will be looking into that matter after the Windies tour.
“BJ is still coming back from injury so at this stage the job is Kruger and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760,” the manager said.
