Krystian Kymerson and Nathan Yeomans win their Round 4 battles at ASP 4-Star Vans Pier Classic
Brazil’s Krystian Kymerson and America’s Nathan Yeomans advanced through into the fifth round (Round of 32) of the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) 4-Star Vans Pier Classic after claiming top honours in their Round 4 (Round of 64) heats that went
down at the Hunting Beach in California, America, on Friday, March 30.
Hawaii’s Hank Gaskell and America’s Jeremy Johnston made their way through into the next round as well after securing runner-up position in the third and fourth heat respectively.
The crowd kept getting treated to a heavy dose of thrilling action as the local and international surfers kept battling it out in four-man battles in tough surfing conditions. The low frequency of rippable waves kept the surfers on their back-foot, compelling
them to start alert throughout the course of the heat to attack whatever scoring opportunities were presenting by the Huntington Beach Pier.
Pitted against his compatriot Franklin Serpa and the two Hawaiian surfers Gaskell and Keanu Asing in the third heat, Kymerson did quite well to claim victory.
The Brazilian surfer got down to business in the opening minutes of the heat, posting a 5.67 on the score-board off his first business-wave. He later added an additional 5.80 points to his account to finish with a heat-total of 11.47 points, which carried
him off to victory.
Gaskell took runner-up place after collecting a couple of scores in the four-point range to end up with a heat-total of 9.10 points.
Serpa finished third with a heat-total of 8.16 points, whereas Asing was forced to settle for fourth place after managing to get to a heat-total of 7.33 points only. Both the surfers were consequently removed from the contention for the event title.
The fourth heat saw Yeomans walk away with a convincing victory after earning a 6.77 off his first business-wave and following it up with a 5.97-point wave to finish with a heat-total of 12.74 points.
Johnston finished behind Yeomans in runner-up place by scoring a 4.73 off his first business-wave and backing it up with a 4.63-point wave for a resultant heat-total of 9.36 points.
America’s Chris Warning failed to please the crowd with his performance and finished in third place with a heat-total of 9.27 points, whereas Japan’s Izuki Tanaka rounded out the bottom-position with a two-wave total of 7.44 points. The bottom-two finish
led to the ejection of both the surfers from the latest ASP 4-Star event.
