Ksenia Pervak crushed Olga Govortsova to reach the second round – BNP Paribas Open 2012
Kazakhstani tennis star, Ksenia Pervak, slaughtered the Belarusian qualifier, Olga Govortsova, with a breadstick at the BNP Paribas Open 2012 on Thursday. She clobbered a 6-3, 6-1 victory over the 23-year-old in the opening round at these Californian hard
court in Indian Wells, United States.
The world number 41 displayed awe-inspiring skills to trash Govortsova in straight sets in their second outing. She not only avenged her loss at the Moscow WTA Premier event three years ago but also levelled the head-to-head series by 1-1 against the Belarusian.
Pervak assertively entered the Indian Wells Tennis Garden and after cashing in all three break opportunities, she clinched the opener with a 6-3 score line. The Kazakh also fended off four out of six breakpoints she faced and produced an amazing first serve
share of 76 per cent as compared to the Govortsova’s 61 per cent.
The 20-year-old displayed faultless performance in the proceeding set and swiped in entire serves without facing any hindrance. She then capitalised on all three break chances and ultimately pocketed the set with a superb 6-1 score line. Pervak manipulated
an incredible first serve share of 94 per cent as opposed to the Belarusian’s 70 per cent and acceptably clicked 11 out of 16 points on it.
The high flying Kazakh will take on the 17th seed, Shuai Peng, who reached this spot after receiving a first round bye at this tournament.
Irina Falconi, a local wild card entrant, will go along the Kazakh in the second round. She was leading 5-2 with two breaks of serve in the second set when her opponent, Alexandra Dulgheru, was forced to retire due to a right knee injury. As a result, Falconi
registered a 4-6, 5-2 retirement victory against the Romanian ace in an hour and 21-minute duel.
"That court is one of the largest in the world, it was really something," the American commented in a post-match conference. "Now I'm 1-0 on Arthur Ashe and 1-0 on Stadium 1 here, so I'm happy! It's a shame she had to retire. During the match I didn't want
to think about it at all though. I wanted to maintain my composure and not really give anything away, and not think I'd have it easy. It's too bad she wasn't able to continue."
The American will next confront the sixth seeded Samantha Stosur, who is the reigning US Open champion. Stosur also received a bye into the second round after being a seeded player of the tournament.
