Ksenia Pervak ousts Kazakh Galina Voskoboeva
in 1st round – Kremlin Cup 2011
Russian Ksenia Pervak ousted Kazakh Galina Voskoboeva in the main draw of the Kremlin Cup 2011. The two old fangled rivals had duelled on indoor hard courts of the Olympic Stadium in Moscow, Russia. Pervak overpowered the Kazakh
qualifier in straight sets of 7-5, 6-4 after one hour and forty two minutes on Tuesday the 18th of October 2011.
Voskoboeva commenced the initial set and she successfully managed to hold her serve and opened the scoreboard to 1-0. She then capitalized on a breakpoint and the score had shifted to 2-0. In the following two games Pervak managed
to close in on the deficit with a hold of serve and break.
The score progressed on even terms as the two players first held their serves in the following two games and then they broke each other one after the other to tie the score at 4-4 by the end of the eighth game. As they matched
a blow for a blow the score was brought to balance at 5-5 as the two won on alternate service games.
It seemed that the set would be pushed into a tiebreaker, however, there was a turn of events when Voskoboeva double faulted on her serve in the eleventh game and she endorsed a crucial break to her adversary, who was now only
a game away from victory. As Pervak served for the opening set, she smashed a marvellous backhand winner down the line to secure the opening set with a 7-5 victory.
The head-to-head run between the two players lost steam in the second set and initiating the second round of the match was once more Voskoboeva and she got off to an appalling start as she double faulted on her first serve. On
the contrary, Pervak not only capitalized on an early break in the first game but also on the third and placed herself on the scoreboard at 3-0.
Voskoboeva made a return in the fourth game by breaking back and she reduced the deficit to 1-3. She then completely closed the gap at 3-3 by the end of the sixth game as she held her serve and then broke her adversary. Albeit,
she had closed in on the gap, it was unfortunate as her crosscourt shot went long as then endorsed a breakpoint to her adversary, who then held her serve and took the lead at 5-3.
Pervak was now a game away from victory however; it was in the tenth game that she was able to bag the set and the match by restricting her adversary to only four games in the set.
Next up for Ksenia Pervak is third seeded Marion Bartoli in the second round of the event.
